Race Day One Update

Race Day #1

The Cannonball Sun team has had an excellent start to our journey across the United States. We left the Red Ball Garage in Manhattan this morning at 2 AM under battery power. Unfortunately, we left without the support of the sun to try and avoid the worst of New York City traffic.

We then exited Manhattan through the Lincoln Tunnel and headed into New Jersey. During our drive into New Jersey, we had a slight mishap with a maintenance hole cover damaging a component on our front suspension. We had to spend an hour on the side of the road in New Jersey at 4 am fixing the damage to Pink Skies. Luckily we know the car very well, and the team performed excellently fixing the problem. Once we overcame our minor setback, we cruised 30 miles up the road and took a nap waiting for the sun to rise so we could continue to move onward to Los Angeles. After letting Pink Skies batteries recharge and getting some sleep, we continued our journey and entered Pennsylvania.

Once we entered Pennsylvania, we began the long climb up through the Appalachian Mountains. While not the Rockies, the Appalachian Mountains are no joke, and we spent most of the day slowly winding our way through Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, Pennsylvania was also not without issues; we experienced some minor problems keeping our motor cool. Nevertheless, we finished the day driving an impressive 185.33 miles and are excited to have a great day tomorrow. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us.
